2010 River of Hope Delivery Day

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

Todd, Jennifer, Tristan, Gabrielle, Grandma and Grandpa Wiese and Grandma and Grandpa Konen, Jennifer's Godson Nick and his girlfriend, Kaitlin headed to UW American Family Children's Hospital in Madison. The Chilton Furniture van was stuffed as well as the suburban. We were on a mission of hope! We met Tina, Riviera's Childlife Specialist. This year we got together the gift bags the night before so the process went much smoother. We delivered a blanket, stuffed animal, book, and toy to every child in the hospital and in Day Treatment and Sedation Clinics. We met great kids who showed great courage! We were greeted with huge smiles and big hugs. It is a day filled with lots of emotions. We visited with nurses, Child Life Specialists, and even Riviera's oncologist, Dr. DeSantes.(Dr. Santa according to Riviera) We were honored to see Riviera's PICU doctor, Dr. Hollman, who was with us during Riviera's last days in the PICU and with us during her last moments. It is amazing how you can hear a person's voice and it can bring you right back 4 1/2 years earlier. The staff is amazing and we are forever grateful. We finished our vist with an introduction to Jeff Poltawsky, Administrator of UW Health American Family Children's Hospital. We were photographed together and he personally thanked us for our outstanding efforts on behalf of the hospital. We definitely accomplished our goal of bringing smiles to children's faces as much as Riviera brought to others. What a fabulous day! Thanks for all your support to make River of Hope possible!
